When buying bacon I am concerned about the welfare of the pigs.

Danish farmers place a strong emphasis on the welfare of animals in their care.  All farm owners and managers must possess specific educational qualifications (including detailed understanding of animal behaviour) and they must also ensure that any stockmen employed are properly trained and fully competent to carry out their tasks.  They see this investment in the well being of their animals as a fundamental responsibility as well as a contributor to the production of consistently high quality meat.  The farming methods are geared towards keeping the pigs healthy and thriving in a comfortable and clean environment.  All pig farms in Denmark are subject to unannounced visits by the state veterinary service to ensure that all welfare legislation is being followed.  We see animal welfare as much a duty as good business practice.
