The pictures in the advertisements look like the pigs are on an arable farm. Why?

The Danish farming co-operative see it as their prime responsibility to develop the pig industry in a way that will minimise the impact on the environment.  Consequently all pig farms in Denmark are also arable farms, producing much of the feed for their pigs.  For many years the Danish authorities have stipulated that all livestock producers must own a certain amount of land for every pig in their care in order to manage the slurry generated, controlling both the amount and timing of when this can be spread on the land.  We are not aware of any other country placing such strict requirements on their farmers.
