Farm to Fork // Meet our Farmers

Pig production

In Denmark, looking after the environment is just as important to us as looking after our pigs. The number of pigs a single farmer can keep is regulated by law and Danish farmers have to comply with some of the strictest environmental legislation in the world. For example, there are specific times of the year when  slurry from the pigs can be spread,  how it should be stored and the amount of nitrogen that can be released into the soil. Over the last ten years, the discharge of nitrogen from pig production has fallen by 50% and the Danish farmers have committed themselves to even further reductions in the future.

Beyond the farm gate, the Danish, abattoirs and processing factories also face very strict environmental rules and have used new technology to make significant reductions in their use of of energy and water.
